This bearing kit is made of stainless steel to resist corrosion in salt water environments.The bearing measures 1.980 inches at its base and is designed for use with most 4 and 5 bolt or lug hubs.It functions as a grease cap system that maintains slight internal pressure—approximately 3 psi—within the hub.This pressure prevents water ingress when the hub is submerged.A black indicator ring on the piston moves outward approximately 1/8 inch when the hub is fully filled with grease, and retracts when additional grease is needed.The piston is spring loaded to maintain consistent pressure against the grease.An automatic pressure relief feature prevents over-filling and over-pressurization, which could otherwise damage the inner seal.Grease is added through a central grease fitting located on the piston.Lubricant level and pressure can be verified by pressing on the movable piston; if it rocks or moves slightly, the hub is properly filled.The outer barrel and internal components are constructed from stainless steel.Before installation, inspect bearings for damage, rust, or pitting, and replace as necessary.Clean old grease and from the hubs and check inner seals for integrity and smooth on the spindle.During reassembly, fill the hubs completely with a multipurpose, NLGI No.2 grade lubricant.Avoid heavy, fibrous greases and do not mix grease types.
